ASL to be revamped

Coimbatore, August 19: The first research publication in Ayurveda, the Ancient Science of Life, is all set to be revamped to meet international standards of publishing. The journal has now moved to an online platform which is open access and works with an online system developed by a partnership among the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia, the Simon Fraser University Library, the School of Education at Stanford University, and the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at Simon Fraser University.

The journal started in the year 1981 under the aegis of AVP Group is now been managed from AVT Institute for Advanced Research (AVTAR), the research synonym of AVP Group. The first editorial meeting of Volume 30 was held today here at The Ayurvedic Trust campus, in which the new editorial board headed by Dr. K. Latha, Scientist, T. Stanes Herbals and Dr. U. Indulal, Deputy Director (Technical), AVC took charge of the office. Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Director of Research, AVT would be the Managing editor. Mr. Sujith Subash E., Faculty in Research, AVTAR will be the executive editor.

Ancient Science of Life has been the bridge between Ayurveda and Modern Biology for the researchers to publish their works in the area. Dr. K. Latha, in the meeting emphasized the importance of encouraging inter-disciplinary works, communicating the science of Ayurveda and related Indian Traditional sciences. The journal gives special emphasis to theory and history of medicine, clinical studies, ethnomedicine and all aspects of traditional pharmacy. ASL also publishes relevant papers from the domains of medical sociology, medical anthropology, ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, microbiology, biochemistry, phytochemistry and pharmacology. The aim of the new editorial committee would be to improve the scientific quality of the works published and would also assit the Ayurvedic community to achieve a better footing in research writing. The trusts also had recently launched Ayurveda first clinical speciality journal titled ‘Journal of Clinical Rheumatology in Ayurveda (JCRA). The website was formally launched by Dr. S. K. Sharma, Advisor to Dept. Of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
